“Suspended Means Suspended”

At about 0330 hrs, on a warm summer night young Pte BLOGEN’s was stopped by a Military Police patrol who observed him merrily weaving back and forth along a German provincial highway. As a result he was arrested for impaired driving, processed on the breathalyzer, charged for Impaired Driving and being Over the legal limit. After having his driver license suspended pending his trial (usually 90 days), and ordered not to return to his vehicle, Pte BLOGEN’s was turned over to his unit and driven home.

At around 0730 hrs, bright and early the next morning while conducting traffic control at the main gate to CFB Lahr, and having read the Daily Occurrence Book from the night before, the MP saw a familiar vehicle enter the gate and the driver who was also known to him. He directed the driver to pull off to the side of the road. While speaking with Pte BLOGEN’s he detected the smell of an alcoholic on his breath. For the second time in less than 12 hrs Pte BLOGEN’s was once again arrested for impaired driving, processed on the breathalyzer, charged for Impaired Driving and being Over the legal limit, driving while suspended, and disobeying a lawful command.

Result: 18 month suspended driver’s license, 30 days in Detention Barracks (Military Prison), and a $2000 fine.

Oh by the way, you don’t get paid, no cigarettes, TV, or free time, while serving time in the DB. What you do get is three square meals a day, early morning wake up calls, lots of things to clean, shine , polish, iron, exercise, and lots of stand by your bed inspections.
